One of the biggest events in the history of small college football was certainly the development of the forward pass. It's hard today to imagine a football game without passing. It's also interesting, historically, prior to the development of the mass media we have today, to discover that small college football used to be bigger than "big college football." Small college football had more teams, more fans, more players -- and even routinely beat big college football teams -- on the gridiron.
