Helen De Pourtales making her the first woman to clinch a gold.
Helen De Pourtales makes our list of top sports pics. She was born in New York City, but her ancestors belonged to Switzerland. She was a sailor and along with her husband participated in the 1900 summer Olympics. Her team went on to win the gold medal in the 2-3 Ton race, thereby making her the first woman to clinch a gold in one of the Olympic events. Unfortunately this is not officially recognized by IOC. But then that’s ok, records cannot really take away the fame she got for herself with the win.
