Best All Time Boston Celtic

Larry Bird was the top Boston Celtic of all time. In his career he accumulated 21,791 points, 5,695 assists, and 1,556 steals. He played his college ball at Indiana State University and took the cinderella team to the National Championship game. He would end up losing the game though to his future NBA rival and hall of famer Earvin "Magic" Johnson's Michigan State Spartans.

Bird was the 6th pick overall and in the first round of the '78 draft. He had an immediate impact leading the '79-'80 Celtics to a 61-21 record. Larry Bird won a total of 3 NBA Championships in '81, '84, and '86. He also won 3 MVP Awards in a row from 1984-1986. He was also a 12 time all-star.

Bird's rivalry with Magic Johnson was legendary and they met in the NBA Championship Finals three times. Magic's Lakers won 2 and Bird's Celtics won one. The two players brought meaning back to a game that had been devoid of rabid fans for some time. Much as Bill Russell did in the 50's and 60's, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird revitalized the game and brought team play to the forefront once again.

In his last season in the NBA, Bird played in the Olympics for the famed U.S. "Dream Team" after the rules were changed allowing professional athletes to compete. Considered by many the best team assembled in any sport, the original Dream Team was a dominant force. The team beat opponents in the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics by an average of 44 points per game on its way to the Gold Medal. More importantly was its sporting impact on the rest of the world.

On May 8, 1997 Bird was named the head coach of the Indiana Pacers. In his last season as an NBA coach he led the Pacers to the Finals where coincidently, they faced off against the L.A. Lakers only to lose in 6 games.

In 1998 Larry Bird was added to the NBA Hall Of Fame. Undoubtedly, Bird was the greatest Boston Celtic in the NBA franchise's glorious history.
